"Take-Out Hunger Day"

On Saturday, September 30th from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, the Statesville Woman's Club (SWC) will partner with Yokefellow Ministry for the General Federation of Women's Clubs' National Day of Service, which will focus on food insecurity. These two organizations have reached out to area businesses for donations to host a community cookout at Yokefellow Ministry, serving the Shelton Ave. Corridor.  The goal is to serve area residents with a hot meal that they can take home with them. This area is considered a food desert, with limited access to food. Yokefellow Ministry serves the area with a thift shop and a food pantry. The SWC teamed up with Yokefellow. Many other businesses have supported this initiative, including Beaver Farms who donated 50 lbs of ground beef, Sam's, Costco, and BJ's, Mr. Alan Carpenter, Sheetz Gas Station, and a few anonymous donors. This project is a labor of love, arising out of the needs of the community and directed by the SWC's First Vice President, Shelley Arthur. So many projects completed by the SWC arise out of the creativity of our members. This one is no different in that regard. The club meets the first Thursday of every month, except July and August. Times rotate to accommodate working women. In an effort to increase sales in the two weeks leading up to October 7th, we are reducing ticket prices from $50.00 pp to  $25 pp, which includes samples of a dozen local restaurants and caterers, a coffee station, and a signature coffee drink.
