The Statesville Woman's Club (SWC), organized in 1920, is a community treasure. From the earliest days, our emphasis has been on improving lives by committing thought, funds, and energy to help solve problems at home and beyond. Importantly, for over 100 years, the SWC has been affiliated on local, district and international levels with the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC). That association has supplied a framework for our efforts in education and libraries, the environment, civic engagement and outreach, the arts and culture, health, wellness and more. Projects spring from the creativity of our members and from GFWC inspiration.
The present SWC administration's theme is "Step Up, Reach Out and Empower the World!". The motto speaks to our legacy and future as we continue to address pressing needs. Despite the pandemic, our club raised and gave away over $6,000 in 2020. Also worth noting is that in the same time span, our club members volunteered over 3,100 hours on club projects and contributed many dollars out of pocket, over and above the amount brought in by fundraisers.
With the pandemic waning, our emphasis in the immediate future is to update some of our practices and increase club membership. Raising our visibility through Chamber association will likely attract new members who share our community-focused vision. We look forward to "Stepping Up and Reaching Out" to a mutually beneficial relationship with the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce.
